Michigan GOP attacking teacher unions with right to freeload law
Apparently, Michigan Republicans are either ticked off at the recall of anti-public school Rep. Paul Scott, R-Grand Blanc, by members of the Michigan Education Association (MEA), or this is just an overall part of the anti-teacher push by Republicans, but Senate Majority Leader Randy Richardville, R-Monroe, announced on the political TV show “Off the Record” that he is going after the teacher’s union with a so-called “right to work” bill that will only attack school employees.
The MEA was successful in getting enough signatures to place Scott’s recall on the November ballot because of the anti-education bills he pushed as chair of the House Education Committee. Additionally, this summer a teabagger group financed by corporate cash called “Michigan Freedom to Work” launched a campaign to make Michigan a right to work for less state. But it appears Senate Republicans are going just after teacher unions, for now, despite a promise to introduce the anti-worker bills on Labor Day.
