TRENTON — Comparing New Jersey to gridlock in Washington, a new group backing Gov. Chris Christie launched a $1.5 million advertising campaign today to tout the governor's successes.
The advertising highlights two balanced budgets, spending cuts and an increase in education funding in New Jersey while simultaneously criticizing federal politicians for "runaway spending, record debt, gridlock government."
The group is focused on tax and spending reform and will be advocating for long-term fiscal solutions, spokesman Brian Jones said. The groups has a three-member board that includes Kevin Feeley, persident, Bob Teeven, treasurer, and Lynn Grone, secretary.
The ads will air on television stations in the New York and Philadelphia markets.
The group is the newest piece of a growing trend by political groups on both sides of the partisan divide to create 501(c)4 organizations, which are immune to state campaign and action committee disclosure laws and can fundraise with only minimal disclosure required.
This group will not release their donors beyond the minimal requirements by the IRS when they file annual reports that include only top donors, Jones said.
That's what it comes down to anonymous groups, with generic smiling children, and unlimited funds.
