The inspiration:
Phil Collins inspiration for this came in the early 90s after spending time in a US hotel room, flicking through TV channels and finding wall-to-wall religious programming. This great video spoofs many of those infamous evangelists from that period. I remember hearing Genesis talk about it at the time and the fact it took them awhile before they realized they were serious.
