In a surprise decision Tuesday, former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) announced that he is suspending his presidential campaign, all but putting an end to the Republican primary.

"We made a decision to get into this race at our kitchen table, against all the odds, and we made a decision over the weekend that while this presidential race is over for me, and we will suspend our campaign effective today, we are not done fighting," Santorum said during an address in Gettysburg, Pa.

During his 14-minute speech, Santorum notably did not endorse Mitt Romney.

Stephen Colbert Gives Jon Stewart Control Of His Super PAC, Explores 2012 Presidential Run

Stephen Colbert is transferring control of his super PAC to fellow Comedy Central host Jon Stewart, making it legal for him to explore a presidential run.

"I'm proud to announce I plan to form an exploratory committee to lay the groundwork for my candidacy in the United States of South Carolina," Colbert said during a Thursday night taping of his show, according to CNN.

There has been speculation about a potential Colbert presidential run in recent days after a poll showed the satirist leading Republican presidential candidate Jon Huntsman in South Carolina. Colbert said his placement in the polls -- "ahead of the third place finisher in New Hampshire" -- meant a potential Colbert 2012 effort "just got real."

"Clearly my fellow South Caroliniacs see me as the only Mitternative," Colbert said.

Perhaps Rick Perry isn't the only late entrant into the Republican field. According to one report, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is considering a last-second bid as well.
According to reporter Jonathan Alter on Twitter, "sources say NJ Gov. Chris Christie is conducting focus groups in preparation for a possible run for president in 2012."
Christie has long denied any interest in a 2012 run. Of course, so did Perry, but the New Jersey governor's denials have been Shermanesque to the point of absurdity.
"Listen, I threatened to commit suicide. I did, I said, 'What can I do short of suicide to convince people I'm not running?'" Christie said in February. "Apparently, I actually have to commit suicide to convince people I'm not running."

So long T-Paw we never knew ya

I am not a Tim Pawlenty fan. I feel I know nothing about him other than whatever the focus groups wanted me to know, as I don't think he ever uttered a true or legitimate word during his whole run for the white house: thus keeping pace with most of his untruthful competitors. Still, Tim Pawlenty is gone before barely a vote has been cast. He has been deemed as having no chance of winning and, though this is probably true, how would we know when he dropped out before anyone had a chance to vote for him. Michelle Bachman had a little over 4,000 votes in a rigged system, where they all had to buy people to come in and vote for them. Those 4,000 votes were enough to finish off Pawlenty.

Does any person on this side of reality see a problem with this system? My only question is will every candidate concede before any flesh and blood people have a chance to vote for them. And will we be told to endorse another candidate, thrown up by this rotted corrupted system. No doubt we'll need at least one "anti-Romney", "anti-Perry" or "anti-Bachman" candidate to go through with the process and to perpetuate the whole charade of giving the indifferent American public the illusion that this year they really did have a choice.

I had an idea why don't they have everyone vote on one day for one of the candidates and declare the person who gets the most votes to be the winner. No, that's probably too close to democracy. Dangerously, too close. Instead, lets have a bunch of charade races that money can shape both the debate and the outcome while their corporate mouthpieces gaggle on about who had a good week and who had a bad one. A legitimate election across the wide United States spectrum would propably be incredibly expensive to fix and mistakes are bound to happen, like the wrong person getting in. It's a lot easier and less expensive to manipulate the media markets in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina - and a lot less expensive too. Besides the television stations in those markets are always grateful for a handout from free "shadowy corporate" entities that will come about in the post-Citizens United world. As for me, I say so long T-Paw we never knew ya.

The woman too crazy for any of the money people to take seriously pulls up on the inside, the guy who thinks that corporations are people but whose only real support is the millions of dollars he takes in from non-human people falls back a length, the libertarian who wins nearly every poll he enters but who there is no way Wall Street will let run their Potomac suburb falls back a pace, the guy who just enters the race from the barn to the right but who looks like a moderate though he keeps talking about every states right to leave the country he wants to run falls into the middle of the pack, the three time philandering congressman who's running on the family value ticket is hangs tough at the rail, the black conservative pizza maker who seems to have no support either inside or outside his party hangs tough, the former ambassador who looks normal and no one knows anything about continues to eun his own race anonymously, the former congressman who can't even hold onto his seat in a conservative part of Pennsylvania so he now wants to give the rest of the US a chance to love him falls even further back into the pack of obscurity...and Sarah Palin is expected to decide whether she will run for president by December 2012, as the ever vigilant press waits the grand lady's every whim.
