Daily Kos: Scott Brown forced to apologize for asbestos 'actor' claim

Daily Kos: Scott Brown forced to apologize for asbestos 'actor' claim:

LP: No wonder Brown uses so many surrogates. Every time he opens his mouth he says something stupid. Maybe he shouldn't back down but double down and call them fakes.

Elizabeth Warren has been running extremely effective ads from families of asbestos victims who received compensation from a victims' settlement. Scott Brown responded to those ads, which called him out for lying about Warren's record, by saying: "A lot of them are paid. [...] We hear that maybe they pay actors. Listen, you can get surrogates and go out and say your thing. We have regular people in our commercials. No one is paid. They are regular folks that reach out to us and say she is full of it.”
Brown has been forced to apologize for that allegation, by this:
“Let Scott Brown tell me to my face that I am nothing but a paid actor, and I’ll set him straight on what it was like to watch my father suffocate to death,” said John English, who discussed his father’s death from mesothelioma in Warren’s ad. Two other Warren backers who appeared in the ad and had relatives die from asbestos-related illnesses called Brown’s comments a “new low” and “cruel.”

Brown actually gave a pretty gracious apology, so credit there: “It was wrong for me to have jumped to those conclusions and I apologize to those I offended."
But you can see why Brown jumped to that conclusion. After all, it's what Massachusetts Republicans do. They're paying people to support Brown, so he must figure that's how it's done everywhere.
