While the other side buys politicians elections, elections, police forces, picks their voters rather than have their voters pick them to keep them in power. We need to become ungovernable mass. We've got to make sure the side that has all the weapons will quit first. It is either we succeed or we become economic slaves. If you listen closely to the other side, you'll realize that they have no answers other than more tax cuts for their rich friends and pitting one disenfranchised group against another.

Flashmob Performs the General Electric Slide in GE Lobby

GE shareholders, concerned citizens descend on Summer Street headquarters to raise awareness of corporate giant’s federal tax dodging
Dozens of General Electric (NYSE: GE) shareholders and fellow concerned citizens descended on GE’s Boston headquarters today for a choreographed protest of the corporate giant’s tax dodging practices. The lunch hour flash mob shut down the company’s Summer Street lobby for nearly 20 minutes, as the crew donned blaze orange MASSUNITING hats and performed the “General Electric Slide” to the tune of the 1976 Marcia Griffiths classic [lyrics below].

A new report by the non-partisan Institute on Taxation & Economic Policy and Citizens for Tax Justice reveals that General Electric is amongst the worst tax dodgers in America. Despite posting profits of more than $19.6 billion over the last three years, GE managed to draw in a federal tax refund of $3.7 billion. The resulting net-negative tax rate of -18.9% placed GE near the top of the non-profits’ “Dirty Thirty” list of corporate tax dodgers.
“As a shareholder, I’m saddened to see General Electric has been crowned a top tax dodger yet again,” said Bethanne Sullivan, a GE shareholder from Brockton. “GE brought in nearly $20 billion in profits over the last three years. No one in their right mind can say the company’s billion-dollar tax refunds are justifiable.”
In 2010 alone, General Electric’s federal tax subsidy cost Massachusetts nearly $100 million in federal spending and direct aid – including $15 million for Medicaid, $1 million for education programs and $981,000 in disability compensation for veterans.
“Every year, budgets get tighter and tighter – and every year, taxpayers have to come up with more money just to maintain the basic services we all depend on,” said Lesley Stafford of Boston, who joined Thursday’s flash mob. “If General Electric just paid their fair share like the rest of us do, we wouldn’t be in this mess.”
General Electric shareholders plan to join hundreds of other Massachusetts residents Tuesday, April 17 for a
Tax Day rally and march through Boston’s financial district. The day of action will highlight several of the hub’s most notorious tax-dodging corporations, including GE. Details available at www.TaxDayBoston.org.

Greek pensioner kills himself over cuts and set off riots
Violent clashes took place in Athens as Greek police used tear gas and flash grenades to disperse an angry crowd of protesters. The demonstration was provoked by the suicide of a retired pharmacist sent over the edge by national austerity measures.
Some 1,500 people took part in the late evening protest on Wednesday in Athens’s central Syntagma Square in front of the parliament.
Angry people were throwing stones and firebombs at riot police officers.
Security forces used tear gas and flash grenades against the demonstrators to curb the violent attacks.
On Wednesday a 77-year-old man committed suicide in the same square. According to a note published by local media, the man said it was the only dignified path he could take.
He also compared the current Greek government to the one the country had under the Nazi Germany occupation and warned that the cabinet would eventually face the same fate as Italian Fascist leader Benito Mussolini.

More on pepper spraying at Santa Monica College
Last night at Santa Monica College (about 20 blocks from the beach here in Los Angeles, CA), police pepper-sprayed some thirty students in a crowd of about 150 protesters. The students want affordable education. They gathered during a meeting of the college's board of trustees to voice opposition to planned tuition hikes that would raise the cost of bread-and-butter courses during the summer session by as much as 400%. I was close enough to the location last night to hear helicopters and sirens as it happened.
The LA Times reports that Santa Monica police are today "trying to sort out" who used pepper-spray on the peacefully assembled students. Reports I heard last night indicated that the person or persons responsible were campus police, not Santa Monica police, who were called in later to secure the site.

WASHINGTON -- Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels (R) rescinded rules limiting how many people can be inside the statehouse at any one time on Wednesday, a victory for Democrats and labor leaders who protested the restrictions as an attempt to quash the size of protests.
Under the rules that went into effect on Jan. 1, only 3,000 would be allowed inside the building at one time. That number includes the 1,700 state employees who work there, meaning that about 1,300 others would be able to assemble on a given day.
The rule was drafted by the Indiana State Police, the state's homeland security department and the state fire marshal's office. Daniels appointed the heads of all those offices.

“Get back ma’am, for your own safety,” a courteous voice warns me. “They’re gonna start pepper spraying.

It’s a surreal touch at the lush, sprawling Westin Kierland Resort, where the air is scented with fragrant flowering bushes and the aromatic lotions of the spa.
But the protesters are at the gate, and inside, hundreds of state legislators from all over the U.S., their wives and entourages are meeting with corporate leaders for a three-day annual policy summit. Or, to their banner-bearing foes, a cradle of “corporate profiteering at the expense of our communities.”
