Daily Kos: Massachusetts Teachers Association endorses Elizabeth Warren

The 110,000-member Massachusetts Teachers Association has endorsed Elizabeth Warren for Senate. The MTA, an affiliate of the National Education Association, made its endorsement within hours of the Massachusetts SEIU's endorsement of Warren. The MTA's endorsement is made through a committee that includes members of the union drawn from each of the state's congressional districts.

Yesterday afternoon Elizabeth Warren spoke at SEIU senator's governor's forum. She was joined on stage by Massachusetts Democrat Marisa DeFranco. Republican Incumbent Scott Brown was invited but he did not show, as he obvously doesn't feel he has to represent unionized workers or at least government workers.

"America is a place of opportunity and it invests in its future," Warren says.

Warren was asked about how she would compete with Scott Brown's large war chest that he has been collecting from various Wall Street sources. She said, "(Brown) may outspend me but he will never outwork me."

"We need to let people know what the city and municipal workers do for us," Warren said. "The solution always seems to be to cut government services so the services are worse and then less people are left doing more work. This is wrong. They cut government workers and then a reason for more cuts is justified because government doesn't work because the lines are long. That is wrong."

Warren said that if she is the nominee she will be against any cuts to medicare or social security. She is for card check which was something the unions had wanted and that they believed would lead to an increase in union membership. Warren is also for an investment in infrastructure and education.

"The race in 2012 is about who's side are you on," Warren said. "We need to see what we care for and value. We can't keep cutting breaks for those who've already done well."

Warren went on to say about the world that came out of World War Two, "We've already lived in a a world (where middle income is going up). We all do better, when we all do better. We can't be country where the debate is always about what kind of cuts we should be making on working people and the cuts, for who have already made it, are considered sacred. The heart of this election isn't about me. It's about what we do together."
